Wedding Notice

O’ROURKE – HARDY

A frock of ivory chantilly lace of cobweb fineness was the choice of Miss Enid Hardy for her marriage to Mr John O’Rourke, which was celebrated with Nuptial Mass at St. Patrick’s Church, Mackay, on Wednesday morning, October 22, at 8 o’clock. Rt. Rev. Monsignor Rowan officiated and was assisted by Rev. Wm. MacAlister. The Convent school choir sang the mass. The bride, the third daughter of Mrs A. Hardy and the late Mr James Hardy, was given away by her brother, Jim. The bridegroom is the second son of Mr and Mrs M.J. O’Rourke, Traveston.

A bandeau waistline fashioned the bride’s frock, and the long sleeves, fitting closely at the wrist, gave a wide shoulder effect. The skirt was softly draped and fell in billowy folds to the tip of her silver shoes. Her mother’s gold cross and chain was the ‘something old,’ and the only adornment of her frock. A three-tiered veil, lent by Mrs A. Cheetham, was caught with a cluster of orchids, and she carried a sheaf of arum lilies and a white missal.

Misses Marjorie Pickett and May Hardy were bridesmaids, and their frocks of prairie rose silk lace were designed with an uplift bodice and square neckline, while the skirts featured pleated panels. Their hats of pleated tulle were trimmed with rosebuds, and they carried posies of pink gerberas and roses. Mr F. O’Rourke attended his brother as best man. During the signing of the register, Miss Thea Aroney played an Ave Maria, and as the bride left the church her niece, Shirley Hewitt, placed a satin horseshoe on her arm.

At the reception, held at the bride’s home, Mrs Hardy received the guests, comprising relatives and the bride’s friends, and with her frock of grey monotone Grafton, she wore white accessories. The wedding cake was three-tier, and the table decorations were carried out in pink and silver.

Mr and Mrs O’Rourke left by the Rockhampton mail en route to Yeppoon, where they spent a few days prior to taking up residence in Brisbane. Mrs O’Rourke travelled in a frock of aqua blue Lavenelle and added white accessories.
